Congratulations on the birth (or upcoming birth) of your son or daughter! Thank you for choosing to have your child baptized in the Catholic faith. All of us at St. Stanislaus look forward to sharing in the celebration of your child’s first sacrament, the Sacrament of Baptism. This beautiful ritual action incorporates your son/daughter into the family of the Church.
To ensure that parents and godparents understand the meaning of the sacrament of Baptism, what to expect on the day of Baptism, and to reflect on the responsibilities that accompany their roles, we require that all new parents and godparents attend a Baptism preparation session known as Pre-Jordan. These sessions are offered on the third Monday of each month, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm in the Parish Center Lobby Meeting Room. You will be meeting with other parents and sponsors preparing for Baptism, along with several couples from the parish who will guide you through the Rite so that you are prepared for the day of the Baptism. Specific dates for Pre-Jordan sessions are found below.
Prior to the Pre-Jordan meeting, we respectfully ask that all parents and godparents take some time on your own to view two on-line videos which explain in a non-lecture format the meaning of Baptism and the role of godparents. Please share the information below with your prospective godparents so they, too, can watch the videos prior to the Pre-Jordan session. The instructions to find the videos on-line are:
- Go to the website at www.formed.org and sign in using the Parish access code ZR6M2C. There is no cost to register or view the content on the website. Disregard any reference to costs that may pop up when you initially submit your profile information. After you register for the first time and set up a password, then you can return to the website any time with out the Parish access code by simply typing in your email address and password you created on your first visit to the Login screen.
- Scroll down to the program entitled “Reborn – You, Your Child, and the Heart of Baptism.” Clicking on that will open up a series of video programs related to different aspects of Baptism. We ask that you watch both the session entitled “Session 1 – A New Creation” and the session entitled “The Gift of Godparents.” Each program is about 40 minutes in length. We have found these videos to be interesting and informative in helping you to be more fully prepared for both the Baptism day and for your important role in raising your child in the Catholic faith in the years ahead.
Registering the Baptism and Picking a Date
Parent(s) are welcome to stop by the Parish Center, located adjacent to the Church, after the 9 am or 11 am Sunday Mass to meet with a Deacon and register for a Baptism. At this time, you will pick a Baptism date and (if known) identify the godparents. Baptisms occur after the 11:00 am Mass most Sundays.
